Dit artistieke onderzoeksproject van kunstenaar, journalist en schrijver Marc van Dijk begon met de vragen: bestaat er een plicht tot optimisme? En zo ja: hoe kun je optimistisch worden en blijven, met inachtneming van je eigen karakter en de toestand van de wereld? En kan dat ook leuk blijven, kan het spelenderwijs?
Als afsluiting presenteert Marc van Dijk zijn eerste antwoorden en conclusies. Daarnaast deelt stagiaire Erika Sani (masterstudent UvA) de uitkomsten van een speciaal publieksonderzoek naar optimisme (u kunt hier nog aan deelnemen t/m 23 juni, kost slechts 5 minuten, klik hier).
Gezamenlijk wandelen we langs een filosofische dialoog van meer dan dertig meter. Deze is de hele maand juni te lezen op de muren van de sociëteit. Ook kijken we samen enkele hoogtepunten uit het programma ‘Plato ziet kansen’, het interview-programma dat Van Dijk opneemt in de studio van de Amsterdamse omroep Salto. De eerste studio-gasten in deze reeks: filosoof en econoom Ingrid Robeyns over optimisme en limitarisme, filosoof Jos de Mul over optimisme in het Symbioceen, filosoof Frank Chouraqui (Universiteit Leiden) over optimisme en spel, filosoof en psycholoog Maarten van Doorn over waarom we beter denken dan we denken en tot slot coach Tessa Deen, bij wie Marc van Dijk een sessie volgde met een paard.
Tijdens de finale is het publiek de hoofdgast. Marc van Dijk zal specifieke kwesties voorleggen en vragen stellen aan alle aanwezigen.
Het programma is deels in het Nederlands en deels in het Engels.

Final: Optimism in the Anthropocene | Marc van Dijk
This artistic research project by artist, journalist and writer Marc van Dijk started with the questions: is there a duty to optimism? And if so, how can you become and remain optimistic, taking into account your own character and the state of the world? And can it remain fun, can it be done in a playful manner?
Finally, Marc van Dijk presents his first answers and conclusions. In addition, intern Erika Sani (UvA master’s student) shares the results of a tailored public survey into optimism (you can still participate in this until June 23, it only takes 5 minutes, click here).
Together we walk along a philosophical dialogue of more than thirty meters. This can be read on the walls of the club house throughout the month of June. We will also watch together some highlights from the program ‘Plato sees opportunities’, the interview program that Van Dijk records in the studio of the Amsterdam broadcaster Salto. The first studio guests in this series: philosopher and economist Ingrid Robeyns on optimism and limitarianism, philosopher Jos de Mul on optimism in the Symbiocene, philosopher Frank Chouraqui (Leiden University) on optimism and play, philosopher and psychologist Maarten van Doorn on why we think better than we think and finally coach Tessa Deen, with whom Marc van Dijk followed a session with a horse.
During the final event, the audience is the main guest. Marc van Dijk will present specific issues and ask questions to all attendees.
